No Pictures This Time

But I'll have you honkies know I turned in two novel manuscripts to my agent last week. TWO. I'd drop the mic but I'm typing on a keyboard.

Meanwhile, Another Novel: Fifth House of the Heart

...Comes out days from now. Here's the trailer, featuring the incomparable actress Jessica Boone in a distinct departure from her usual Shakespearian work.
This was of course an excuse to use all my video-making toys for evil, not good. But buy the book.

Leda Good Times Roll

Second state of Leda and the Swan, now in a poster format.

Czech Food

This is almost the Czech national dish -- cabbage, dumplings, and pork. Countless variations. It's common name is Vepřo-knedlo-zelo, and why not.
It's everywhere here in Prague, and so am I -- you almost can't tell us apart.

Take Me To Your Leda

I'm writing books in Prague at the moment, where Alfie Mucha is all the rage -- you remember him, little chap with a pointed beard, naked women in and out the shop at all hours, but couldn't he ever draw, it was a wonder I'm telling you -- and got an opportunity to do a mural in the style of the master. This is about three-quarters done, needs cleaning up.

The subject is Leda and the Swan, one of the countless stories of the ancient Greeks in which Zeus disguises himself as something totally unsexy and still manages to get some action -- the first real master of "negging", I presume. For some reason, possibly good taste, Mucha himself never illustrated this subject, although many artists throughout history have done.

So for the next couple of weeks I'm learning how much better Pan Mucha was at art than I am.

The yellow bits will be gold leaf in the final version.

Whiskey Shakespeare

Don't ask. I had reasons.

Just so you know.

Book Trailers, The Accidental Highwayman

The book comes out in October, and these contain no spoilers.

Everything was done on the computer I'm writing from now, except live elements, which were shot in my back yard with a green screen tacked to the side of the house. Everybody in LA has a green screen. The sheep are stock footage, but only because sheep are fairly scarce around here. I am indebted to the Great Buz Carter, who performed all crew duties on the live shoot.

Let it never again be said I have failed to represent pulled pork. Red and green cabbage slaw garnish.

Faerie Poster

An unused (so far) promotional poster illustration for my next novel, The Accidental Highwayman. Not quite final state. Publicity is about to kick in on this project, including four book trailers.

Poster Comp

Channeling the stellar Drew Struzan here.  You can tell this is Photoshop by the woman's chin at the top: part of it is repeated in her collar, because I moved her head.  Comps are just to convey an approximate sense of what's going to be done.

I haven't been posting here because everything I've done lately has been either proprietary (going into books) or awful (no need to show it to anyone).

Pace Yourself

I'm editing two novels this midwinter.  It's not a bad idea to have a couple of projects going at once - but not at precisely the same stage at the same time.

Still, getting there.

My Nephew Quint

I swear to you one of his fingers wouldn't get a suntan, he had it up his nose so much.

Happy 14th, my man!
